About the Madrid Stock Exchange
The Bolsa de Madrid, also known as simply the Madrid Stock Exchange (exchange principle index IGBM) is Spain’s largest and most prosperous stock exchange, offering a number of options in trading securities under Spain’s national umbrella of the Spanish Stock Market. Designed and built during the 19th century by architect Enrique María Rapulles, the Madrid stock exchange was officially founded in 1831 and was operated by the Sociedad Rectora de la Bolsa de Valores de Madrid, a company organized and managed by the Kingdom of Spain. The current Bolsa de Madrid has over 3557 listed companies as of December of 2007. Around 90% of its current transactions occur using the Spanish Stock Market Interconnection System (SIBE) and all fixed income assets are traded through the SIBE. In 2010, the Madrid Stock Exchange had a market capitalization of over 1.2 trillion euros (US $1.8 trillion)

Being the largest of the four exchanges (with the others being located in Barcelona, Valencia, and Bilbao), the Bolsa de Madrid’s membership includes over 40 major financial institutions in Spain and 12 well known and established dealers of securities worldwide. Its size also leads to it dealing in a vast majority of securities, from shares, convertible bonds, fixed income securities, derivatives and debts in both the private sector and government. The main trading is done between the hours of 9:00am-5:30pm local time via the SIBE platform. Of this time, open outcry is from 10:00am-11:30am.
