    About the Shenzhen Stock Exchange



    The Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) is the 14th largest stock exchange in the world and lists more than 1200 companies with a combined market capitalization of US $1.3 trillion. Based in Shenzhen, China, the SZSE was founded in 1990 and for the first 15 years of its existence, until 2005, over two thirds of the 730 listed companies in the Shenzhen’s index were owned by China’s government, and thus were non-tradable. In 2005, during the Chinese stock issue reform, the non-tradable shares were made tradable. Its initial public offering (IPO) activity was halted in the final quarter of 2000, as the Chinese government attempted to figure out a way to merge its interested on a NASDAQ style board.



    Trading of securities was originally done in an open outcry format, but starting in October of 2009, after a long wait during which the Chinese government evaluated its options regarded private and technology companies, the Shenzhen stock exchange created the ChiNext exchange board for these privatized and high-tech companies which were experiencing remarkable growth. The board lists in a NASDAQ like style, with securities first being displayed at their asking price and then current bids following.

    Shenzhen Stock Exchange Hours

    The Shenzhen stock exchange operates for pre market session from 9:15-9:25 China standard time. Its normal trading sessions are from 9:30am-11:30am, and followed by a session at 1:00pm-3:00pm.

    Shenzhen Stock Exchange Holidays

    The Shenzhen exchange operates on all weekdays throughout the year with the exception of 7 of China’s national holidays that fall over a total of 15 weekdays. These holidays for the 2011 schedule are below:

    Qingming Festival- April 4th-5th
    Labor Day- May 2nd
    Duanwu Festvial- June 6th
    Mid-Autumn Festival- September 12th
    National Day- October 3rd-7th
